The project in Kalundborg comprises the construction of approximately 80,000 m² of pharmaceutical warehouse facilities along with an administration building of approximately 1,800 m² distributed over three floors. Norrplan has played a central role as architectural consultant, with a strong focus on aesthetics, working environment, and sustainability in close alignment with the client’s requirements. The facility accommodates laboratories, warehouse and logistics functions, office spaces, and technical systems for handling large volumes of liquids used in the production of Novo Nordisk products.

The development is conceived as a cohesive and prominent building complex, where the large-scale warehouse structures and the administration building are unified through a consistent architectural concept and a calm, industrial expression. The warehouse buildings are designed as long, horizontal volumes, with façade articulation and vertical rhythms creating variation and visual depth along the elevations.

The administration building is more architecturally refined and designed at a human scale, with a strong emphasis on spatial quality and a healthy working environment. The façades are clad in grey facing bricks combined with metal profiles in a matte bronze finish, adding warmth, depth, and variation to the architectural expression. The vertical metal profiles contribute both to façade articulation and integrated solar shading, while large glazed areas at entrances and shared spaces ensure transparency, a strong visual connection between interior and exterior, and generous daylight conditions within the office areas.

Overall, the material palette is characterised by robust, durable, and low-maintenance solutions with a high level of architectural quality. The interplay between grey facing bricks, bronze-coloured metal profiles, and silver steel sandwich panels creates a subdued and contemporary material palette that supports the client’s ambition for a project rooted in Nordic design principles.
