Initiatives

setting the industrial agenda

We convene the industry’s sharpest minds to define the future of industrial construction

Expertise requires foresight. As founders of the Industrial Building Network, we do not simply observe market evolution – we actively shape it. We connect decision-makers, investors, and specialists to uncover the next generation of challenges before they become mainstream.

At our quarterly expert summits, we move beyond standard industry talking points to tackle the critical, unaddressed shifts in technology and sustainable asset strategy. Here, we turn collective intelligence into competitive advantages, ensuring our partners remain first movers in a rapidly changing landscape.

heritage

1942

Norrplan’s history traces back to the iconic architectural studio of FDB – the cradle of Danish functionalism. Here, our core values were formed: a commitment to quality, economic responsibility, and design where function defines form.

To support Coop’s growth and ensure quality and standard solutions across stores, warehouses, factories, and offices, an internal architectural studio was established. Within this studio, the legendary design philosophy that shaped classic furniture was now harnessed and transferred to inform the design of warehouses, factories, and stores that built modern Denmark. The signature architecture was simple and functional and informed by the Danish modernist expression of the time.

1983

In 1983, determined to preserve decades of architectural expertise, a group of architects and technicians from the Coop studio founded ak83 arkitekter a/s. The mission: to carry the principles of functionality into a new era of design.

An early pivotal partnership with the rapidly expanding Danish company, JYSK, marked the beginning of our journey into specialised, large-scale industrial and retail architecture.

what our clients say

"Focus on design and a healthy work environment"

Since 2002, Norrplan has designed more than 25 buildings for DSV, built on our specialisation in logistics facilities. This long-term collaboration has resulted in a design template for offices, cross-docking terminals, and warehouses, ensuring optimal solutions in terms of efficiency, cost, and consistency across all DSV facilities.

“To keep pace with developments in the industry, the template has been continuously refined. It is important that people can recognize a DSV building when they pass it. We want both employees and customers to associate DSV buildings with thoughtful design and functionality. They should be both appealing and purposeful and act as a landmark for DSV. In addition to strong design, DSV places great emphasis on creating a healthy working environment for their employees, which is also a key priority in ak83 architect’s design approach.”
