Can rammed earth scale to industrial construction?

As sustainability moves from ambition to requirement, the materials we build with are being redefined.

One of the oldest methods, rammed earth, is re-emerging. Traditionally associated with small-scale architecture, it is now being explored at much larger scales.

At Norrplan, we are inspired by projects like Weleda Cradle Campus in Germany. One of the first examples showing how rammed earth can be integrated into modern logistics facilities at scale.

We believe this is where the industry is heading: combining innovative engineering with lower-impact materials to rethink how large-scale buildings are designed and delivered.

We are currently exploring how principles such as rammed earth could be applied, not as a direct replacement for conventional construction methods, but as part of hybrid solutions that reduce environmental impact without compromising performance or scalability.

The real opportunity is figuring out how quickly our industry can move these ideas from experimentation to implementation.
