Development of Green Data Centres
Norrplan develops and designs data centres for leading operators across Denmark, based on an architectural approach that unites technical complexity with spatial quality. Our projects are founded on flexible planning principles, modular structures, and robust constructions that enable continuous expansion and ensure long lifespan in a field characterized by rapid technological development.
We work holistically with the interplay between architecture, functionality, and operations. The design considers logistics, security, cooling, and technical installations, while the scale, materiality, and proportions of the buildings are refined with respect for the surrounding context. The goal is to create data centres that appear as integrated building volumes rather than isolated technical facilities.
Sustainability is a consistent design parameter in all phases—from layout and material selection to facade expression and landscape design. Natural materials and green elements are actively used to soften the technical character and create a more sensory and site-specific architecture. In this development project, for example, facades are finished with vertically debarked willow combined with sections of green ivy, adding depth and variation to the facade, reducing visual scale, and contributing positively to microclimate and biodiversity.
The result is a future-proof architectural solution where high-tech infrastructure and sustainable design merge into a cohesive and robust building concept.
