The Anebjerg Waterworks project in Skanderborg involves the development of a modern visitor facility for Skanderborg Forsyning, with a total area of approximately 407 m². The project has been conceived with a focus on functionality, user experience, and architectural quality, translating technical waterworks operations into a transparent and engaging visitor environment. A key objective of the project has been to create a visitor-oriented waterworks, with high demands for design quality in both materials and building form. Norrplan has contributed as architectural consultant, developing a design that emphasizes clarity, durability, and integration with the surrounding landscape.

The facility includes spaces for visitors, educational purposes, and operational support, creating a seamless interface between public access and the technical functions of the waterworks. The architectural concept is rational, legible, and restrained, reflecting Nordic design principles while accommodating the specific requirements of a visitor-oriented facility. A large glazed façade makes the inner workings of the waterworks clearly visible to passersby, creating transparency and inviting engagement. Wooden slats are applied on the exterior, adding warmth and tactile quality that contrasts with the light white steel panels, while inside, exposed glulam beams provide further contrast to the industrial character of the facility and foster a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and facility users alike.

Material selection emphasizes robustness, longevity, and low maintenance, while enhancing the architectural expression and visitor experience. The combination of glass, wood, steel, and exposed timber creates a balance between industrial functionality and a warm, approachable environment, supporting the client’s ambition for a modern, educational, and visually coherent waterworks facility.
