Simple Design Intervention with Impact
For Catena, Norrplan designed a new 26,000 m² logistics facility at Idunsvej in Køge, located within the Scandinavian Transport Center, one of Denmark’s most important logistics hubs with direct access to the E20 and E47 motorways. The project has been developed with a strong focus on optimisation, flexibility, and cost-efficiency, where economic parameters have been central throughout the design process.
When budgets are tight, good architecture is not necessarily about adding more, but about applying the right design interventions in the right places. Through a simple yet carefully considered façade concept with shifting grey tones, the building has achieved a distinctive and recognisable identity. A small architectural gesture with significant visual impact without adding unnecessary cost to the project.
At Norrplan, we work strategically to adapt architecture to the client’s financial framework while maintaining a strong focus on identity, functionality, and design quality. Industrial and logistics facilities should not only perform efficiently, but also contribute with a clear architectural character that strengthens both usability and long-term value.
The facility consists of three interconnected warehouse halls with associated office areas and mezzanine levels, creating a flexible layout that can be divided into up to three separate lease units. The project is developed according to BREEAM standards and designed to meet the increasing demands for modern logistics and distribution facilities in the Greater Copenhagen region.
