Rema 1000, Stavanger

Practical Constraints Lead to High Creative Yield

The large, robot-operated warehouse and office complex for Rema 1000 in Norway exemplifies a successful realization of tight space and budget considerations. Hard work at the drawing board and close dialogue with the client have borne fruit, resulting in a solution where the building minimally occupies the ground and where creative and innovative use of standard elements and materials is evident.

The facility is divided into four temperature zones and is partially robot-controlled. These needs form the basis for the design, which aims to create an interesting and attractive surface on the large building while breaking down its volume so that it appears smaller in the landscape. The facades are clad in smooth steel sandwich panels in a silver-gray color that reflects the surroundings, and the office units are white cassettes with bands of tall window sections.
